CO-CURRICULAR

It's embarrassing but I failed to join any co-curricular club. It was such a bum for me. I was really disappointed when I first get the result of the application as I failed to join the club I desired. Due to the pandemic issue, we had to register our co--curricular club online. I registered to the Nasheed Club. It was not occupied and still have so many vacancies left. However, when I was submitting my application, the system crashed as there were so many students sending their application at the same time. Hence, I needed to refresh the page and re-fill the application form. I didn't expected that the incident would affect the result. It turned out that the club is already full that they had to reject me. I am so frustrated as I failed to join any club in university.

Back then in high school, I was really active in co-curricular. I had participated in various kind of activities in school and even outside of the school. Firstly, I had participated in Malay Debate Competition and my team managed to be the first runner-up at the state level in 2019. It was a long journey. I first step into the debating field when I was in form 1. I started my journey as a second speaker. Although it may seems as the easiest role to take, it took a lot of effort to master the delivering skills to convey the message to the audience. I was off to a good start. I was the champion of the closed debate competition on 2015. I also managed to be the first runner-up of the competition in 2016. In 2017, I successfully recaptured the throne and be the champion of the competition once again. I didn't participated the competition in 2018 due to a schedule clash. Nonetheless, I managed to be the first runner-up of the competition once again in 2019. Overall, I am really satisfied with the result and I think that this is a really great journey. I gained a lot of knowledge throughout the journey and it really helped me improved my critical thinking skill and verbal communication skill especially in Bahasa Melayu.

That is it for the closed debate competition. Moving on to the open debate competition. I started to join the open debate competition when I was in form 2. It was a debate competition among the lower forms of boarding school. We succeeded to enter the semi-final and lost to Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK). I also participated in Yayasan Selangor Open Debate Competition from 2016 until 2019 and managed to be the first-runner up in 2019. In addition, I participated in Cabaran Debat Zaba in 2018 and 2019. Although we didn't manage to break into the deathmatch round, it was a really good experience for us as there were so many knowledge we gained. Last but not least, I also participated in Debat Malaya 2020 and managed to enter the quarter-final and lost to Sekolak Menengah Sains Alam Shah (SAS).

Next, I have also participated in Malay Debate Competition among public school from 2017 until 2019. In 2017, we managed to be the first runner-up at district level. Although, it was my first time taking the role as the third speaker, I managed to pull it off. It is the hardest role of debating. hence, I am really proud of myself. Next year, we managed to be the champion of the district and be the second runner-up at the state level. Lastly, in 2019, we managed to be the first runner-up at district level. This time, I was in charge of being the first speaker of the team. It is a really big responsible as I am the first one who start the argument that would set the path for our group for the

rest of the debate. It may not be a huge achievement yet it means a lot to me. I have spent most of my time during my high school years for debate. It felt like all of my hard works has been paid off. Not forget to mention that I also had participated in Malay Forum Competition and my team was the first runner-up at district level. 2018 was my first time joining a forum competition and we managed to be the second runner-up at district level and the very next year we improved. We managed to be the first runner-up at district level. It was a really meaningful achievement to me as it was on my birthday. Yes, it was on the 30th April 2019. Back from the competition, our teacher treated us Nando's as a winning celebration as well as my birthday. It is one of the best moments ever happened on my birthday. I'll be sure to remember this moment forever.

Apart from the co-academic activities, I was also quite active in co-curricular. I was the secretary of police cadet in my school. In 2019, I was the first runner-up for individual marching and obstacle course at district level . I also managed to be the second runner-up for group marching and compass reading at district level which qualify me to participate in the police unit camp for state level. At state level, I successfully become the first runner-up for the individual marching and the champion of long distance running competition. It was the best experience of my co-curricular life. Being able to bring back 6 medals in 2 camps is really the best achievements I have so far.

In 2018, I have joined a uniformed unit body camp at state level. That time, I had to be the representative of the Red Crescent Club of my school. Yes, it was kind of funny as I was not even a member of the Red Crescent Club. However, the quota of the Police Cadet members is occupied. Hence, I need to pretend like I was a member of the Red Crescent Club. It was really exciting as I felt like I was an undercover agent sneaking into the camp. Despite not being a member of Red Crescent Club, I managed to be the champion cooking competition and the obstacle course competition. I was really satisfied with my achievements and I really like my team there. We keep in touch with each other even until this very day. I am glad I met them there.

From all these activities, it had help me to sharpen my problem solving skills, which can be proven through my debate activities and competitions which I managed to be the first runner up together with my team. Next, the other co-curriculum activities that I had participated in school had taught me to become a better leader which had help me to enhance my leadership skills as those activities conducted still need me to assist and lead a few students through out the activities. In terms of the team building skills, I had get myself involved with the camp that help me to empower my team building skills together with my team which really helped us to work together as a team, and sort out problems’ solution through out the activities conducted.

Finally, from all these activities that I had participated, it does help to improved not only my teamwork skills, problem solving skills, and leadership skills but it also help me to enhance my communication skills. From here, I believed that with all these activities, I had made myself becoming someone who is holistic, not only in academic aspects but also in the co-curriculum aspects which had provide me with soft skills that made me became someone better physically and mentally. Overall, I think that my co-curricular journey really taught me a lot of things. I am grateful that I had given the opportunity to experience each and every activity.
